Oil ContaminationOil contamination in a cooling system poses several challenges. First and foremost the source of the oil contamination must be found. Oil coolers are often found in radiators or in coolant pipes, and are usually not readily visible. Determining whether an oil cooler is the source of the leakage, or the head gasket has failed, proves to yet be another challenge. Once the failed part has been replaced or repaired, the clean up can begin. The first step is to replace as many hoses as you can. Oil softens and weakens the rubber, and by replacing these hoses you are reducing the clean up effort required as well as improving the quality of the repair.
